European Theater WWII |
| Not yet sure of exact dates of his military service, but Willard served as a medic in the 11th Field Hospital in the European Theater. His unit moved with Patton from Italy, France and Germany. His field hospital was stationed near Munich when Dachau was liberated, and apparently participated in the liberation in some fashion, perhaps some medics were detached to help with the health needs of the survivors. I need to research this further. Willard never talked about his service very much. He preserved a number of very horrendous photos of what was discovered at Dachau -- dead bodies piled high, etc. -- CJD |
